The offseason hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the team, but Jerry Jones remains intent on following through on his promise of a push in free agency. Now, Dallas has released a quarterback after making several other adjustments with the salary cap in mind over the last few days. While the team still has time to sort through key decisions, pending contract negotiations, the upcoming NFL Draft, and what could be a busy few weeks ahead are likely to keep the front office working through its roster options.

The Cowboys traded their first-round picks in both 2000 and 2001 to acquire wide receiver Joey Galloway from Seattle, hoping to give quarterback Troy Aikman another reliable target. The move ended up being one of the worst trades in franchise history. Galloway suffered a major injury in his very first game with Dallas. By the time he returned the following year, Aikman had already retired, leaving the trade far from the impact the team had envisioned.
