Troy Aikman was born with a congenital condition called clubfoot. It caused his feet to be rotated inward and downward at birth. Starting at around 8 months old, Aikman was placed in a series of leg casts that extended from his toes up to his knees or thighs. He wore these casts on both feet until he was approximately 13 to 14 months old. After the casts were removed, he was required to wear special orthopedic shoes. Aikman wore these shoes until he was about 3 years old.
